Paywatch
UX/UI Branding Design Systems
Project Overview
Client: Design challenge for Paywatch, a Dutch fintech app for managing bills and debt
Industry: Fintech, Financial Wellbeing, UX/UI
Timeline: 2-day self-directed design exercise (August 2026)
My Role: UX/UI Designer — visual system, typography, and interaction redesign
As part of a design challenge, I reimagined Paywatch's interface to shift its emotional register from alarm to calm. The existing app — built to help people track bills, reminders, and debt collections — leaned heavily on saturated corporate blue and alarm red, a numeric "financial health score," and dense, equal-weight stat grids that inadvertently amplified the anxiety of an already stressful financial situation.
I rebuilt the visual system around a muted, desaturated palette (blue-gray, sage, terracotta) that preserves meaningful color-coding for genuine urgency while removing constant low-level alarm signals. I restructured typography around a single typeface with strong size and weight contrast, replacing a flat, uniform hierarchy. I also explored structural alternatives to the app's dense card grids — including merged, low-noise stat groupings versus separated card layouts — to reduce visual competition between metrics that don't need equal attention simultaneously.
A fintech app built to chase you into paying. This is what it looks like when it stops chasing, and starts helping.
